Perquimans River Moveable Bridge and NCDOT Bridge Construction Updates
Description:
Aaron Earwood, NCDOT’s State Bridge Construction Engineer, will present on updates and various topics on bridge construction and lessons learned from the field around the state.
Following Aaron, Timothy Noles and Nathan Wiggins will present on the NCDOT TIP Project R-4467, US 17/NC37 Swing Span Bridge replacement project in the Town of Hertford over the Perquimans River. This project replaces the state’s oldest swing span bridge originally constructed in 1929 with a bridge that looks identical to the old one; but includes the latest technology for sustainable operation well into the future. The project also includes remote swing span operation, a two-story bridge tender house, and a 2,500 foot fixed span bridge that replaces an existing sinking causeway. The presentation will include an overview of the project special design features and challenges.
